Why Steven Weber Thinks ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Could Come Back
The NCISverse continues to thrive, with three shows on the CBS schedule for fall 2026 — the mothership, new spinoff New York, and prequel Origins — and one for the midseason (Sydney), so what are the chances that we could see one of the ones that ended return?
Steven Weber, who played Mayor Douglas Hamilton on New Orleans, was asked just that in the Tuesday, July 28, episode of the NCIS: Partners & Probies podcast, hosted by Brian Dietzen (Dr. Jimmy Palmer) and Diona Reasonover (Kasie Hines), and his answer also speaks to network television in general.
“I have no idea. It could easily. It could easily for the new audience. It would be amazing. It’s not like there’s nothing going on down there that would require law and order,” he pointed out.
“Why not? I like network television. I come from that world,” the Chicago Med star continued. “Now, it’s sort of like a boutique hotel. But I think people are hungry for those — not everything has to be screaming and bloody and crazy and heightened. There’s something about that particular genre of television, which NCIS inhabits beautifully, did and does, and all the shows I’m on now do. You know, the Dick Wolf world, people love that stuff. Not everything has to kind of tear your brains out and terrify you. People like mysteries and they like their heroes, and it could come back.”

NCIS: New Orleans ran for seven seasons, starring Scott Bakula as Dwayne Pride (a character who has shown up on Origins, played by Shea Buckner) and ending in 2021 on a positive note. That was by design executive producer Christopher Silber told TV Insider at the time.
“When we found out that this was going to be the series finale, it was Jan [Nash, EP] who felt like, ‘Let’s have it have a positive ending without it making it feel like it’s an ending for our character, just an ending for the series. They will continue even if we don’t get to see them on their adventures. But let’s give them a win, let’s end on a high note,’” he said.
Should the series have continued, “Certainly we would have wanted to explore and we were excited about exploring Pride’s relationship with his son and digging deep into that and seeing what that means to discover that you have a son who is nearly fully grown and to try to build a relationship and try to build those ties,” Silber shared at the time of the finale. “It would be challenging for sure. We thought that the young man who played Connor was fantastic and there was great chemistry with Pride and with [his brother] Jimmy [Jason Alan Carvell] as well. As well as solve incredibly interesting and fun Navy crimes.”
