The 10-Year ‘NCIS’ Reunion Fans Have Been Waiting For Is Finally Happening

NCIS fans were excited when the news broke that Michael Weatherly was returning to NCIS and Mark Harmon was reprising his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS: Origins for the 2026-2027 season on CBS, but today comes even better news: The reunion of their two characters — Gibbs and DiNozzo — will take place onscreen for the first time in 10 years on an episode of NCIS: Origins that will air on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

In the season premiere of NCIS: Origins, Gibbs left Alaska after five years and headed to California after being shot by unknown assailants, who left him for dead, saying, “One down, one to go.”

Gibbs realizing that someone else is also in danger – and understanding that it involved his story from 34 years previously that began at Camp Pendleton and involved Lala (Mariel Molino) – he headed back to the lower 48 to save a life and solve the mystery.

As part of that story, Gibbs will also return to NCIS’ D.C. headquarters to enlist the help of new director Tony DiNozzo.

The Gibbs storyline on NCIS: Origins will play out over the 10-episode third season of the prequel series.

“We have so many surprises in store for you,” showrunner David J. North told Parade in an exclusive interview for the season premiere. “He’s going to be crossing with people from his past, which we’re very excited about.”

And one of those people is DiNozzo.

NCIS airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, while NCIS: Origins airs the same night in the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. Both shows stream next day on Paramount+.
