NCIS Season 24 Brings Back a Fan-Favorite Character After Their Shocking Season 23 Return
NCIS fans were excited to see Kayla Vance return in the Season 23 finale, and it appears her story may not be over yet.
In the finale, Kayla helped the team investigate a bombing linked to a café explosion she witnessed a year earlier. Flashbacks revealed how she became determined to uncover the truth behind the attack, eventually creating her own group focused on tracking extremist threats. Her efforts also helped clear her late father, Director Leon Vance, of any suspicion surrounding a controversial investigation.
Speaking with TVLine, showrunner Steven D. Binder confirmed that Kayla is expected to return in some capacity during Season 24, although exactly how she fits into the story remains undecided.
One possibility is that Kayla could join NCIS more directly, following in her father’s footsteps. However, she may also choose to continue running her independent organization, which allows her to work outside the restrictions and bureaucracy of government agencies.
Binder noted that Kayla faces a difficult choice: honoring her father’s legacy by staying with NCIS or moving forward on her own path after the loss of both her parents.
Either option offers exciting story possibilities. Whether she works alongside NCIS or independently, Kayla’s return would continue Leon Vance’s legacy while giving fans a compelling character to follow in Season 24.
