21-year-old’s final post takes on gut-wrenching meaning after fatal bridge jump accident

A 21-year-old woman who died in a bridge jumping accident in Brazil shared a social media post just hours before the tragedy.
Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, lost her life on Saturday morning after an accident during an adventure activity at a bridge in the Brazilian city of Limeira, in the state of São Paulo.
The incident occurred at Ponte do Esqueleto, also known as Skeleton Bridge, and has prompted a police investigation as authorities work to determine exactly what went wrong.
Final social media post took on different meaning
Before taking part in the jump, Freitas documented her day on social media. She shared photographs from the site, including images of the identification bracelets she received before the activity.
She also posted photos featuring representatives of the company involved in organizing the event.
One message she shared has now attracted widespread attention.
Alongside a photograph of a company banner, Freitas wrote:
“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”
What was intended as a lighthearted joke has become especially poignant in the wake of the fatal accident.
Accident captured on video
Footage circulating online appears to show Freitas being carried toward the edge of the bridge by two staff members in a Superman-style position before the jump.
According to witness accounts and information provided by Brazilian Military Police, a critical safety rope may not have been attached to her harness before she was released.
Moments after she was launched from the bridge, voices can reportedly be heard shouting:
“The rope, people, the rope.”
Freitas fell more than 131 feet to the ground below.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, rushed to the scene, but she was pronounced dead.
Reports also indicate that her fiancé was present during the incident and required medical assistance after learning of her death.
Investigation underway
Authorities said Freitas was participating in an activity organized by a private company when the accident occurred.
Six people were reportedly arrested at the scene following the tragedy.
The Civil Police have opened an investigation and will determine whether criminal charges should be filed against anyone involved.
The case has also sparked concern among local officials. Limeira’s city government has announced plans to file a complaint with federal authorities regarding safety conditions in the area.
Mayor Murilo Félix said it is necessary to establish responsibility for what he described as a lack of access control and insufficient protective measures in an area known to present risks.
