đ„čđ¶ âWHEN LAINEY WILSON EXPLAINED WHY SHE CHOSE THIS SONG, THE WEDDING DANCE TOOK ON A WHOLE NEW MEANINGâ Lainey Wilsonâs wedding was filled with unforgettable moments, from the stunning Tennessee setting to a guest list packed with country music stars.
Country singer Lainey Wilson married former NFL star Devlin âDuckâ Hodges at the Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tennessee, on May 10th. The stunning celebration featured a star-studded guest list, with celebrities such as Wynonna Judd, Ella Langley, Miranda Lambert, and Luke Bryan in attendance.
As you would expect, music played an important role in Lainey and Duckâs wedding day. They told Vogue they walked down the aisle to the tune of Rayeâs âWhere Is My Husband!â after they said, âI do.â
As a nod to her Louisiana heritage, Lainey brought in the legendary Rebirth Brass Band to perform at their wedding and reception. Later, she and Duck shared their first dance as husband and wife to Muscadine Bloodlineâs âWalk in a Room.â
As for her father-daughter dance with her âdeddyâ Brian, Lainey chose a tear-jerking song for that moment. Her choice was the beloved classic, âButterfly Kisses.â
On Fatherâs Day (June 21st), Lainey posted a video of her father-daughter dance. The precious clip shows her and her dad swaying along to the music. At one point, Lainey can be seen turning to her dad while singing, and he smiles in response.
Lainey also shared the significance behind âButterfly Kissesâ and why she picked that song for the dance.
âI sang Butterfly Kisses at my Kindergarten graduation so of course it had to be my father daughter dance at the wedding,â she wrote. âHappy Fatherâs Day, Deddy.â

The Story Behind âButterfly Kisses,â The Song Lainey Wilson Chose For Her Father-Daughter Dance At Her Wedding
Bob Carlile released âButterfly Kissesâ in April 1997. The sweet song about a fatherâs love for his daughter came from a personal place. He wrote the track (alongside Randy Thomas) in honor of his daughterâs 16th birthday.
Some of the lyrics are:
âOh, with all that Iâve done wrong,
I must have done something right,
To deserve a hug every morning,
And butterfly kisses at night.â
âButterfly Kissesâ struck an emotional chord with listeners. The song became a crossover success, peaking at #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #45 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
The track received the Dove Award for Song of the Year and the Grammy for Best Country Song.

Then, Jeff Carson dropped his rendition in June 1997. His recording peaked at #66 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Wilson chose his version to dance to at her wedding.
