CBS Is Cutting Mark Harmon’s NCIS Comeback Short After Just 10 Episodes

After ten episodes, CBS will end Mark Harmon’s NCIS: Origins comeback, with Season 3 being much shorter than a typical NCIS season. The franchise is drawing on major legacies this fall, bringing Harmon back as Gibbs, with Michael Weatherly also returning as Tony DiNozzo in NCIS Season 24 and LL Cool J returning as Sam Hanna in NCIS: New York.

Harmon’s NCIS: Origins Season 3 comeback begins with Gibbs getting shot in Alaska and narrowly avoiding a threat to his life. Afterward, he returns to Washington, with Harmon appearing on-screen at the beginning and end of each NCIS: Origins Season 3 episode. That said, as Episode 5, “Baila Esta Cumbia,” airs on November 10, the season reaches its halfway point.

The Hidden Disappointment Of Mark Harmon’s NCIS: Origins Season 3 Comeback

Especially compared to Tony DiNozzo or Sam Hanna’s comebacks, audiences may ultimately feel disappointed after seeing Gibbs again. While NCIS Season 24 and NCIS: New York will run through CBS’s entire 2026-2027 broadcast season, NCIS: Origins Season 3 will wrap up midseason after just 10 episodes, with its finale expected to air on Tuesday, December 8.
