Prince William Makes a Rare Late-Night TV Appearance & His Sense of Humor Has Fans Doing a Double Take
Prince William recently sat down for an interview on the Graham Norton Show, and it kind of caught people off guard. It’s not really that William said anything particularly unusual. Instead, people were surprised to see him acting so… funny and down to earth?
While a few critics thought the conversation seemed awkward or even uncomfortable to watch, many royal watchers found William’s demeanor quite endearing. Some even said a short clip of the appearance made them remember why they once had crushes on him.
In fact, they find themselves crushing on him all over again.
In a clip from the show that has been circulating online, Prince William answered a question about being “born into” his job. When asked whether he’d ever dreamed of doing something different, William seemed rather honest and personable.
“There were elements of that, Graham, yeah,” William admitted. “I’m rapidly trying to think about what I can say on television.” But hey, at least he was honest about that?
He then went on to list a few jobs he had fantasized about at one point. “I did want to be a policeman when I was younger,” he started. “I thought I could make a good policeman.”
Later, he “went through a phase” that sounded quite different from his police officer ambitions.
At another point in his life, he liked the idea of becoming a DJ. And although he even thought of a name he could use, that particular daydream never amounted to much.
William admitted that it “didn’t go very well.” He explained, “I came up with a name; I was called ‘DJ Xara’ with an X. It wasn’t good.” After William admitted to this, he was asked whether he ever had the opportunity to “DJ at school parties.”
He answered, “No, I didn’t. I never got that good.”
People were kind of surprised to see this side of him.
Royal watchers on Reddit noted that he came across as pretty “likable” during the interview, and it seemed quite different from the “stiff” persona they typically associate with him due to the way he acts during royal engagements.
“Dang can’t believe he’s funny,” one person wrote after watching the clip. Several people also made the argument that “he needs to do more of this.”
“I like him,” someone commented. “I honestly would like to see more of him this way rather than in the rigid engagements.” They added that “his ‘stiff’ reputation comes from limited exposure and palace regulations.”
Interviews like these seem pretty powerful though, given that this one was enough to reignite multiple people’s crushes. “Oh no this short clip made me have a full-on crush on William,” one commenter said. “Wow I have to say he’s so charming here – and you can see the young William from 20 years ago that everyone had a crush on,” someone else said.
“He’s good at being self-deprecating, like he doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is quite charming,” another person observed. “It’s not a bad public persona to have, as a future monarch. He really does give off dorky dad vibes.”
The clip also reminded people of Princess Diana.

Both his appearance and overall demeanor made people think of his mother. “I think he’s quite charming,” someone wrote. “He reminds me so much of his mother. They both have this shyness about them.”
Another person added, “Genetics are so wild. He has the same exact mannerisms and identical side-profile laugh as his mother. He is Diana’s twin.”
