Mark Harmon Is Back — And His Latest Gibbs Moment Has NCIS Fans Talking
For years, NCIS fans wondered whether they would ever truly see Mark Harmon step back into the world of Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Now they have their answer — and his return is shaping up to be much bigger than many expected.
Mark Harmon is returning on screen as the older Gibbs in Season 3 of NCIS: Origins. And this time, he’s not simply dropping by for a brief appearance.
CBS has revealed that Harmon will appear throughout the upcoming season as part of a season-long storyline involving Gibbs’ past.
A recently released teaser gave viewers an early taste of what’s coming. Harmon appears as Gibbs beside a fire, reflecting on the past and the things a person can never completely leave behind.
For longtime NCIS viewers, it was exactly the kind of quiet, serious Gibbs moment they remembered.
The reaction came quickly. Some fans described getting “goosebumps” from seeing Harmon back in character, while others celebrated the prospect of having Gibbs play a meaningful role in the franchise again.
Harmon originally led NCIS for nearly two decades before Gibbs left his team behind and settled in Alaska in 2021. Although Harmon remained connected to the franchise and later returned for special appearances, many viewers continued hoping they hadn’t seen the last of Gibbs.
Season 3 of NCIS: Origins could give them something they’ve wanted for years.
The series primarily follows a younger Gibbs, played by Austin Stowell, during the early stages of his career. But the upcoming season will connect those earlier years with the older Gibbs in the present day, revealing more about a character fans have followed for more than 20 years.
NCIS: Origins Season 3 is scheduled to premiere October 6, 2026.
For longtime fans, one thing is already clear:
Gibbs isn’t finished yet.
