Irish actor Pierce Brosnan hints at Bond comeback in new role
Pierce Brosnan hints he might return to James Bond… as a retired 007.
Irish icon Pierce Brosnan has teased that he could make a comeback to the James Bond franchise – but don’t expect him to don the tux as the active spy.
The 72-year-old, who played 007 in four films from 1995 to 2002, said he’s open to appearing in a Bond-related project in a new, more ‘retired agent’ capacity.

Speaking to British GQ, Brosnan said: ‘Of course, people ask about Bond – ‘would you?’ and whatever – but that’s another man’s job. But the possibilities of working within that film, entertaining…’
When asked if he might play a retired agent, he added with a wink: ‘Sometimes you entertain it and sometimes you just move on.’
Brosnan is keeping busy outside of MI6 duties, with plans for a second Thursday Murder Club film, based on Richard Osman’s bestselling books, and filming the second season of Paramount+ crime drama MobLand.

He says he’s enjoying the chance to embrace more mature roles: ‘In this time and place in age, it allows me to play characters. It allows me to enjoy the process of acting and of playing within the image, playing within the symbol, playing within the icon of that person that you’ve created.’
rosnan first became the world’s favourite spy with GoldenEye (1995), followed by Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002).
In Thursday Murder Club, released earlier this year, he plays retired trade union leader Ron Ritchie.
