A town in Indiana is offering ‘grandparents for hire’ to entice remote workers to move there
A small town in Indiana has caused great interest among hundreds of families considering moving there after it was offered substitute “grandparents” to care for their children, as part of an incentive program to attract remote workers.
The City of Greensburg will offer free child care for the next 6-12 months as part of the “Grandparents on Demand” program. In addition, children will have a grandparent when Grandparents Day is celebrated at school.
Remote jobs from home have grown exponentially since the COVID-19 pandemic began. So more families are moving to places where the cost of living is lower.
Families from various places like California or New York are applying to move there.
In addition to ‘grandparents on demand,’ the city is offering $5,000 in cash, co-working space memberships, free meals with neighbors, gift cards, and more.
At least 40 other cities and towns offer similar incentives. Some offer up to $20,000. Others offer college scholarship payments and support for college students.
Working from home is making it possible for more people to move to other areas without losing their jobs, something that would have been very difficult years ago.
