The late-night appearance comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the men’s treatment of the women’s hockey team.

After the U.S. men won Olympic gold, President Donald Trump jokingly told the team in a locker room phone call that he would be “impeached” if he didn’t also invite the women’s team to White House festivities.

“We’ll just have some fun, we have medals for you guys. And we have to—I must tell you—we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that,” the president said as he and the team laughed. “I do believe I probably would be impeached [if I didn’t].”

The president also offered to coordinate military aircraft to fly the men’s team to Washington, D.C. for the State of the Union—which the majority of the team, including both Hughes brothers, ended up attending.

The women’s hockey team declined President Trump‘s invitation to attend the State of the Union, citing prior commitments.

While appearing on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday, Feb. 25, Knight addressed the president’s comments for the first time, calling it a “distasteful joke.”

“I thought it was sort of a distasteful joke, and unfortunately that is overshadowing a lot of the success, the success of just women at the Olympics carrying for Team USA and having amazing gold medal feats,” Knight said.

Jack, for his part, emphasized the respect the men’s team has for their Team USA counterparts after several players, himself included, received criticism for laughing at the president’s joke.

“You’re in the moment, the president calls,” Hughes told reporters on Feb. 25. “We’re blaring the music and then they pause the music and then the president calls. I don’t think … obviously, it is what it is now.”

“We have so much respect for the women’s team. They have so much respect for us. We’re all just proud Americans. We’re happy that we both swept the Olympics,” he added.

Quinn is also rumored to be taking part in Saturday Night Live this weekend, hosted by Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and streams next day on Peacock.
