NCIS Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly quickly became close after meeting. And while they have a lot in common, de Pablo feels like she has a pretty solid idea of where their boundaries lie. Meanwhile, it’s still a learning process for her co-star at times.

De Pablo and Weatherly seemed to have a lot in common, which is why they were able to hit it off almost immediately after meeting. However, De Pablo had to quickly get over her first impression of her co-star, who jeopardized her co-star’s audition on screen by going off-script. Since then, however, de Pablo and Weatherly have only grown closer.
“That relationship was established from the moment we met. Nothing changed, it only improved. And we fell in love with each other. We realized that we were so different and so similar that there was an immediate attraction,” de Pablo once said. Weekly Entertainment.
Their collaboration and banter seems not so different from their on-screen relationship. NCIS. And their real-life chemistry hasn’t changed a bit since they first met years ago. In a recent interview with Diversityde Pablo digs a little deeper into their dynamic. For example, de Pablo knows what the boundaries are between them when it comes to having fun and teasing each other. But Weatherly still has trouble defining those boundaries sometimes, which can lead to more fun between the two.
“You know, I always say about working with Michael that it’s always new and unpredictable. I think he also likes that I… you know, the fact that I love to play,” de Pablo says. “Even though I can sometimes be very, like, formal, what I love most is to go into a kid’s world and play. I think we connect on that level. We’re both kids at heart. We love to play. I respect the boundaries and the structure of that. He has a harder time with the structure and the boundaries. But at the end of the day, we both love to play.”
How Michael Weatherly Helped Cote de Pablo Get Her First On-Screen Kiss
It would be a few years before Weatherly and de Pablo’s on-screen romance could be explored. But before that, Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David got a taste of their feelings for each other in the episode “Under Covers.” The episode saw federal agents pretend to be a married couple, which required the two to kiss. But the moment was a slightly unsettling experience for de Pablo, who had never kissed another actor on screen before. But de Pablo remembers Weatherly making the experience as comfortable as possible for her.
“Oh, I just remember this particular moment when you’re on set, and then you’re so nervous about how you smell. I remember that because I remember it being so cute,” de Pablo told Weatherly on the podcast. Off Duty: NCIS Review. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, he really cares.’ And you’re like, ‘Oh, is this okay? Is this deodorant okay?’
But Weatherly was also surprised by de Pablo during their kiss scene. Just for different reasons.
“This episode was really fun to shoot. Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva, came up to me right before we shot the first scene where we kiss and said, ‘I’ve never kissed anyone on camera before,’” Weatherly once said.
