The Two Reagans We Never See In A Single Blue Bloods Episode!
“Blue Bloods” sets itself apart from other police procedurals by highlighting the importance of family. The main characters are not just coworkers, but actual relatives – the Reagans. Each member of the Reagan family has chosen a career in law enforcement to protect the streets of New York. However, being family doesn’t shield them from conflicts that arise within their different departments, which can spill over into their personal lives. That’s why they gather every Sunday for a family dinner, where they can discuss their issues and address conflicts outside of work.
But you may have noticed that a few key family members have never appeared on the show. Betty and Mary Reagan are integral to the family, even though they are no longer alive. Betty, Henry’s wife, passed away from a terminal illness in 2001, before the events of the series. They had another child, Peter, who tragically died of leukemia at just 18 months old. The family dinners are part of Betty’s legacy, showcasing how she overcame a difficult childhood.
Another tragedy the Reagans endured was the death of Frank’s wife, Mary, in 2005 due to cancer. Mary was not only a mother and a grandmother but also the President of the Children’s Fund. Her daughter, Erin, would later take over her position. Despite claiming to dislike Valentine’s Day, Mary cherished every card Frank gave her. Although these two women are no longer with us, their legacies live on through their children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren.
