Blue Bloods star Danny Reagan Nearly Had His Real-Life Wife Play His On-Screen Lover

Jenny McCarthy turned down an offer to play her husband’s significant other on Blue Bloods – but which one, and why?

It’s no secret that Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy are an actor couple.

They’re happy together, and they’ve even done a reality show about themselves called Donnie Loves Jenny in the past – because they both enjoy acting in comedies, the couple treated it as their own mini-sitcom.

They also hope to one day co-host a game show.

Few people are aware that, aside from Donnie Loves Jenny, the actors had the opportunity to co-star in a much larger series – Blue Bloods, in which Wahlberg plays fan favorite Danny Reagan.

According to Wahlberg’s recent interview with TV Insider, the showrunners approached Jenny about a role when the actors were already dating: she was supposed to play Danny’s high school love, Marianne Romero.

She would have appeared in one of the flashbacks in the fourth season episode Growing Boys.

Despite the fact that this was a good offer and a chance to work with Donnie, McCarthy declined — as Wahlberg puts it, “to her credit.”

Jenny didn’t want to complicate things for the couple or the fans at this early stage of their relationship. She thought it would be “disruptive for the audience.”

Marianne Romero’s role was eventually taken over by Charisma Carpenter (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Jenny McCarthy has no regrets about passing up the opportunity because she felt it was the right thing to do.

Donnie and Jenny are still happy together after all these years, and there is hope that they will appear together on Blue Bloods one day.

Wahlberg claims he would have welcomed her as a guest star on a couple of episodes, but he doubts it will happen due to Jenny’s role as a judge on the hit TV show The Masked Singer.

Even with her hectic schedule, there’s still a chance Jenny will appear on Blue Bloods: the show was recently renewed for season 14 after the cast agreed to a massive pay cut, and if the new season does well, it will most likely be renewed again.
