Dog Is Miraculously Rescued When Jogger Discovers It Trapped Beneath Rocks At The Beach

Thanks to the quick action of a jogger who saw the helpless puppy at the beach while it was caught behind large boulders, the dog is still alive.

A 1-year-old Springer Spaniel called Gwen fell buried behind big, heavy rocks at Ocean Beach, according to a San Francisco Animal Care and Control Instagram post.

Despite the low tide, the water was steadily creeping in, endangering the dog’s life if she wasn’t discovered in time. Thankfully, aid showed up quickly.

According to the post, a jogger who was passing by on the beach “thought he heard a muffled bark.” Despite the noise, no animal could be seen.

Fortunately, he made the decision to scan the area and “miraculously discovered a dog’s face peering up from under the rocks.”

A photograph shows Gwen’s tiny face buried beneath the rocks, demonstrating how well hidden she was. It’s a miracle that the jogger noticed her. SF Animal Control described it as “beyond fortunate.”

Officer Ortega arrived on the scene after the jogger called animal control. He moved the rocks and freed Gwen after finding the dog (“no small feat in and of itself,” according to the organization).

According to Animal Control, the dog was “scared and cold, but otherwise fine.”

Gwen’s owner had reported her missing, and they were soon reunited.

It’s unclear how Gwen got into that predicament in the first place: “Perhaps she dislodged a large rock, fell in, and the rock rolled on top,” SF Animal Control speculated. “Whatever happened, we’re so glad she’s back home safe and sound!”
