Kevin Costner ‘is trying to get’ ex Christine Baumgartner back amid reports he feels ‘blindsided’ by the recent end of their 18-year marriage

Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Costner is reportedly trying to win back his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner, less than a month after she filed for divorce. 

Following the recent end of their nearly 19 years of marriage, reports are surfacing that the actor, 68, is not ready to throw in the towel on their longtime relationship.

‘Everyone thought Kevin and his wife were super happy so it’s all surprising,’ the insider revealed to Us Weekly. ‘He truly loves her and is trying to get her back. He’s been blindsided by this.’

Earlier this week, it was revealed by People that the Yellowstone star’s nonstop work schedule reportedly made the mother-of-three, 49, ‘unhappy’ as she yearned for him to  spend more time at their family home in Santa Barbara.

‘During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her,’ a source told the outlet.

The insider added that though the Hollywood veteran was aware that Christine was unhappy, her divorce filing still came as an ‘unpleasant surprise.’

As Costner’s revived career continued to pick up more steam amid the popularity of Yellowstone, his wife was concerned about his new projects, including his upcoming Western epic, Horizon.

‘Christine doesn’t want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn’t happy about it.’

‘At times, his career has taken precedence over his home life,’ another source told the publication.

The source added that The Bodyguard actor ‘hasn’t been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time necessary for his other projects. He has been in demand.’

‘All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized. Since it didn’t look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home.’

Kevin’s wife Christine, whom he was been married to since 2004, filed for divorce last week, citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’ 

The couple have three children together: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.

Costner was previously married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994 and they share three children – Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35. He also shares a son Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney, who he dated after his split with Silva.

The actor and filmmaker has been filming in Utah for his new film Horizon, which marks his first directorial project in 20 years, since 2003’s Open Range.

Prior to that he was busy filming in Montana, the location of his television series Yellowstone.

Last week, Paramount confirmed that Yellowstone would be ending following the current season.

The show is on a break – with part two of season five set to debut November.

Last year it was suggested that Christine had told him to quit the show or else she would leave him.

Costner filed his response to the divorce on Tuesday, and he is also seeking joint custody of their children.
