The true story behind the Amazon ‘snake cat’ that fooled the world

In recent days, the story of the “Amazon snake cat” has circulated on social networks, a supposed new species of cat discovered in the tropical jungle. The news quickly went viral, sparking interest among animal and nature lovers around the world. However, today it has been revealed that it was all a hoax generated by artificial intelligence.

The image showed a cat with black and yellow spots on its body that seemed to perfectly imitate the scales of a snake.

The post, which claimed that this cat was a unique species of feline that inhabited the Amazon jungle, sparked a lot of controversy on social media. Users argued about whether it was real or a hoax, but the truth is that it was an image created with an artificial intelligence system.

The creator of the original post, a Russian user named Alex Vasilev, confirmed that the image was fake and that a photo of an ordinary cat had been used along with an image of a mangrove snake to create the reptilian effect.

The mangrove snake is a species native to Southeast Asia and is known for its vertically aligned pupils that resemble the eyes of cats. Although it is largely black, it has yellow bands on its body, giving it a similar appearance to the cat in the image.

Dr. Andrew Kitchener, a feral cat expert, confirmed that the snake cat does not exist and has not been scientifically described. It is most likely a South American cat of the genus Leopardus that has been given a change of clothes.

Although there may be new species of cat waiting to be discovered in South America, this is not the case for the snake cat.
